Lagrangeville’s Got Talent!
The Music Ministry is sponsoring a talent night on Saturday, April 24th in the Church Meeting Room. Tickets for this event will go on sale in April. Seating will be limited. We need performers that can play instruments, sing, recite poetry, dance, act, juggle, or otherwise entertain a “family friendly” audience for five to ten minutes. If you would like to participate please fill out the form in the bulletin and return it to the parish office: Attn: Music Director. Performers will need to be pre-screened for appropriateness.

Music Ministry Guidelines
The Blessed Kateri Youth Choir
The Youth Choir sings at the 9am mass every 2nd and 4th Sunday, from October through early June, and at some special occasions. Practice is Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 7pm beginning in mid-September. Please do your best to attend practices and Masses.
Our goal is to carefully equip the children to
“sing with grace in their hearts to the Lord”. Colossians 3:16
We desire that every child learn to enjoy the pleasure of worshipping God. Therefore, we seek to avoid stress and pressure. While we encourage children to do their best and to sing with their most beautiful voices, we are not anxious about memorizing words or singing perfectly. Remember: the children are being taught to focus their attention on Jesus and God and not on themselves.
Thank you for allowing us to know your child and to share with your child the joy of praising God through music.
The Blessed Kateri Contemporary Ensemble
The Contemporary Ensemble leads the 10:30 mass each Sunday, and at some other special occasions. Practice is Thursday evenings from 8:00pm to 9:30pm. Please do your best to attend practices and Masses.
New members must practice with the group at least two months or at the discretion of the Director before joining in on Sunday mass.
Our goal is to lead the congregation to “sing with grace in their hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).
Thank you for sharing your talents and joy of praising God through music.
The Blessed Kateri Adult Choir
The Adult Choir sings at the 9am mass every 1st, 3rd (and the occasional 5th) Sunday from mid-September through early June. Practices are each Wednesday at 7:30pm. There are no auditions required to join the choir but it does help to be able to sing on tune. No musical training or background is required. The Adult Choir also sings at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, Holy Week services, and several other occasions. New members must practice with the group at least two months or at the discretion of the Director before joining in on Sunday mass.
Our goal is to lead the congregation to “sing with grace in their hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16). Thank you for sharing your talents and joy of praising God through music.
The Blessed Kateri Cantor Guidelines
The role of the cantor according to the Second Vatican Council is to encourage the assembled to be full and active participants in the liturgy. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal describes several ways that the cantor serves in the liturgy:
There should be a cantor or choirmaster to direct and encourage people in singing. If there is no choir, the cantor leads the various songs, and the people take their own part. (#64)
The chanter of the psalms is to sing the psalm or other biblical song between the readings. The cantor should be trained in the art of singing psalms and be able to speak clearly and distinctly. (#67)
The cantor is a member of the assembly who can and does serve the assembly in its worship. The cantor is to act as a catalyst for the sung expression of faith from within the assembly. The cantor’s voice should never overpower the singing of the assembly.
This ministry requires a great deal of competence. The cantor must be singer, proclaimer, liturgical minister and spiritual leader.
The cantor must have knowledge of music and be able to learn the psalms and hymns independently.
The cantor must be able to display a proper presence at the altar. The cantor should never be intimidating to the assembled but encouraging.
The cantor must show respect for the rules and directions given by the Music Director.
